Gears of War 3 Review

The third installment of Gears of War franchise is both revolutionary and fun.  I’ve been through the mayhem of the first and second title.  However it seems like 3 kicked it up a notch.  So without further ado, lets get into this review!

Story: Unlike the other Gears of War titles, this title has some plotlines and twists.  While they arn’t novel quality, they definitely help to push you forward.  Right off the bat you’re introduced to the coward president who holds information on Marcus’ dad being alive, a video.  In this video he pleads for Marcus to find him as he has the key to getting rid of the lambent.  Throughout this installment, you find the lambent isn’t only effecting Locus, but also humans, so it’s vital to get rid of it.

Graphics: I loved the graphics.  The best on the console.  I really put som time into perfecting the look.  While the environments are not lush and colorful, it’s what is expected with how tore up the world is at this point.

Controles: Controls are solid.  A lot of issues have been fixed such as moving passed allies when in cover.  My only issue is that you have to hold down X to pick up ammo for a weapon.  This is extremely annoying especially in the heat of battle.

Gameplay: Simply amazing, I was hooked for way too long that I eventually had to put it down.  The action is fast pace, dynamic, and never gets repetitive.  It’s more than just the previous titles that was too much “Take Cover and Shoot” over and over.  You will be flanked, you will lose cover, you will have bombs at your feet, you will need to hit nodes to remove respawn, a bomb will burrow from beneath your feet, you will need to get to a point to survive.

Overall: This is an amazing shooter.  The best 3rd person shooter I’ve played.  I recommend this to anyone who’s liked the previous, or to new adopters.  With the intro video and plot layout, it can easily be picked up by anyone.  Also, the multiplayer coop, horde mode, etc is a blast!

Family Friendliness-This title does of course contain plenty of gore and blood. Sadly, it also does contain a large amount of language. Fortunately, it also contains a language option that mutes the language as well as a gore block that gets rid of the excessive blood donations to the screen. While I wish the language wasn’t there to begin with, it’s nice to see Epic Game put in a filter. (ESRB Mature17+)

4.5 Paws Out Of 5
